Sikh Culture

In 1500 A.D. with Guru Nanak Sikh (first Guru among Ten Gurus of Sikhs) Sikh culture came into existence. In Sikh Culture, Guru holds an important position. The preachings of Guru Nanak is the base of Sikh Culture. Guru Nanak taught people to believe in one God and God existed from the begging of the universe, God Himself is the creator, He is without fear and hate (does not have preconceptions), He is beyond Time (immortal), He is Unborn, Uncreated, Self Existent and is attained by Enlightenment by a Guru.

"Ek Onkaar Satnaam Karta Purakh Nibhao Nirvair Akal Moorat Ajooni Saibhang Gur Parsad"
Guru Nanak also taught people to worship God along with household duties. He was against renouncing world in the name of religion.

Sikh means "a disciple". Sikh Culture emphasizes on following the preachings of Guru Granth Sahib (link to the installation of Guru Granth Sahib). All the ceremonies of Sikhs are celebrated in front of Holy Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

Guru Gobind Singh, the last Guru of the Sikhs, established Khalsa Panth. It is mandatory for Sikh male adults to wear Turban (dastar). For Sikh women covering heads with a long scarf (chunni) is compulsory.
