Khalsa Panth believes in the system of governance by divine guidance. Khalsa Panth refers to the people who have taken the way of the Khalsa. The word Khalsa means pure. A person becomes Khalsa after becoming an amritdhari (i.e. after drinking from the trough of Amrit).
History of Khalsa Panth
God founded Akaal Purakh ki Fauj and Guru Nanak Dev Ji introduced
it. Guru Gobind Singh Sahib Ji organized it. On Vaisakhi 1699,
Guru Gobind Singh Ji launched Khalsa Panth. Khalsa Panth was
established with a motive of saving the Hindu people from
the oppression of the Mughal emperors. With the martyrdom
of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, his son Gobind Rai (Guru Gobind Singh
Ji) succeeded his father as the next Guru. To fight against
Mughal oppression, he established a new religious order. This
was the foundation of entirely new sect in Sikhism-the formation
of "Khalsa Panth".
Codes of Conduct
Credos to be followed are - Naam Japna (to recite the name
of God), Kirat Karna (earn honestly to earn livelihood) and
Vand Chakna (to eat after distributing). The Akaal Purakh
Ki Fauj comprised of the people who have vowed to sacrifice
their lives for the benefit of people and committed them to
Sikhism by Amrit Chakna (ceremonial drinking from contents
of the amrit trough). These people are also given Flag (Nishaan
Sahib) and they live with the motto Deg Tegh Fateh (Deg represents
food and Tegh refers to Sword, it means victory in providing
food and protection to poor and needy).
Five K's of Khalsa
A baptized Sikh is required to wear five K's. These include
Kesh (uncut hair), Kangha (wooden comb), Karra (steel bracelet),
Kachha (short breeches) and Kirpaan (blade).
